I want to share something a little different from our usual patient guides: what happened behind the scenes at our practice this summer, and why it matters if you are trying to find us, or a dentist like us, online.
Where we were: great reviews, shrinking phone
By this spring, our practice had a problem that had nothing to do with dentistry. Our patients were happy; our Google rating stood at 4.8 stars across more than 120 reviews. But the phone told a different story. Calls coming to us from our Google listing had fallen almost 20% compared with the year before, down to roughly 45 calls a month, with about 64 monthly visits to our website from that listing. Our old website had been auto-generated by a site-builder platform: one thin page after another, slow, and nearly invisible when people around Bloomingdale searched for the services we actually provide every day.
I am a dentist, not a web strategist, so this June we brought in BRD Media’s dental marketing team, an agency based nearby in Villa Park, to rebuild our online presence from the ground up. They showed us exactly why the old site could not rank and laid out, page by page, what they would build instead.
What the rebuild involved
- A real page for every service. Instead of one generic page, the new site gives each treatment its own in-depth page, from dental implants to our Clear Aligner system to emergency visits, written around the questions patients actually ask us in the chair.
- Pages for the towns we serve. Patients come to us from Addison, Itasca, Bartlett, Roselle, and Carol Stream, so each of those communities got its own page.
- A careful move to our new web address, with every old link redirected so nothing our patients had bookmarked was lost.
- An active Google Business Profile, with regular posts and photos instead of a listing that sat untouched.
- Honest measurement. We can now see which searches bring patients to us, so decisions are based on data rather than guesswork.
The new site went live at the end of July.
What happened next
The early movement surprised even me. In the first 72 hours after launch, the new site brought in 7 new patient inquiries, 2 of which became implant patients. Within the first week, searches for our practice name and for new-patient visits showed us at #1, tooth extraction searches at #2, and “dental implants near me” at #4 in local tracking.
New websites usually bounce around while Google re-evaluates them, and ours did too. But by mid-August the picture had settled clearly upward. From our local rank tracking for the Bloomingdale area:
| Search (tracked from Bloomingdale) | One week earlier | Mid-August |
|---|---|---|
| “dentist near me” | #15 | #1 |
| “tooth extraction bloomingdale il” | #10 | #2 |
| “dental office bloomingdale il” | #15 | #3 |
| “full mouth restoration bloomingdale il” | #6 | #3 |
| “emergency dentist near me” | not ranked | #5 |
| “clear aligners near me” | #6 | #7 |
Those are positions from our own tracking, not projections, and they are the searches that matter to a local practice: people nearby, looking for care now.
Why I am sharing this
Two reasons. First, transparency: if you found this website through a Google search, this is why. Second, I know many of my patients own small businesses and practices of their own, and the most common question I get after “how are my teeth?” is some version of “how did you get your business to show up like that?” Now I can point to this page. The team that did the work understands how dental practices get found online, and they told us the truth at every step, including when to expect rankings to wobble before they settled.
For our patients, nothing about the dentistry has changed. Same office, same team, same approach: we explain your options, put the price in writing, and let you decide. The website finally reflects that.
